Why I always wear shoes outside

"Sobrang arte mo naman!" Well, say that again when you realize why Mum is so strict with my cute feet.

This wasn’t always the case. But a traumatic experience in 2022 made my Mum realize the importance of me wearing shoes whenever I leave the house.

It was the morning of August 26, 2022 when Mum saw a big roundworm in my vomit. In her panic, she rushed me to the vet.

Doc then asked us where we had been the past few weeks, and Mum said she took me to a pet park inside a mall. Doc explained that pet parks are a breeding ground of intestinal worms, because dogs are fond of pooping there to mark their territory. The sad part is, furparents rarely thoroughly clean after their pets. And since dogs’ paws are like ‘open skin’, when we step on a surface where another dog had pooped on, our paws will ‘absorb’ the eggs left by the poop’s ‘essence’. (Sorry for the graphic and not so pleasant details ✌) So, Doc advised Mum, “If you’re fond of taking Midnight outdoors, have him wear shoes.”

And the rest is history.

To date, I have three pairs of blue shoes. I use them when I go for (1) walkies around our village, (2) strolling with Mum and Dad to the mall, and pretty much every outdoor activity they allow me to do.

I even wore shoes during a fun run. Yes! We can wear them even while running!

“But Midnight, don’t they get removed from too much movement?” They used to, three years ago, until Mum discovered the secret technique — rubber bands! They help keep my shoes in place.

💡 Tip for furmoms: Prevention is ALWAYS better than cure. Keep your furbabies safe from parasitic worms by protecting their feet when walking outside your house.
