It's a bird ... it's a plane ... No, it's me, Midnight!

Dog and humans preparing for paragliding

It was summer of 2024 when my furparents had this crazy idea of trying out paragliding.

Mum inquired with Rizal Paragliding Adventure regarding their rates, offerings and policies. Much to her delight, pets are allowed provided they are securely attached to their furparents through a carrier. Mum happily obliged and bought me a blue pet carrier online (mine is size Medium).

We drove from Quezon City to Binanongan, Rizal at around 6 am to catch the calm, early-morning breeze — perfect setting for paragliding.

When we arrived, there were other ‘flyers’, so we had to wait. To pass the time, we sat under the trees and watched how humans defy gravity. (By the way, I was the only furbaby that day. #VIP — very important pet)

When it’s finally our turn, Mum suited up and I sat comfortably on her lap.

Then, the paragliding staff secured my carrier to Mum’s harness through carabiner clips.

They also briefed us about the proper form when preparing for ascent and descent, so that we don’t get injured.

After the ‘safety talk’, they double-checked Mum’s safety gear and my carrier to ensure that they are properly and securely in place.

I saw one of the staff members give our pilot a thumb up.

And just like that, we’re ready to fly.

Did I get scared? Of course not!

As you can see in this photo, I was even looking over my Mum’s shoulder. I was wondering how I suddenly felt so light, and why the humans who used to tower over me have become so small that I can’t see them.

Anyway, we flew over Binangonan, Rizal for around 10 minutes, taking in the fresh air and basking in the sunlight. Then, our pilot prepared us for descent.

Whew! Perfect landing!

Did I have fun? I think my smile here says it all.

I’m also proud of myself.

Why wouldn’t I be?

Well, how many dogs like me can proudly say “I defied gravity”? I can now relate to Elphaba.

So, if you’re a furparent reading this, this is your sign to take your furbabies paragliding with you, too!
